This site aims to give you an overview
of the department, the projects and the wildlife and nature
of Ascension Island.
The Ascension Island Government Conservation Department
started in 2001 when the British Foreign and Commonwealth
office (FCO) funded the Seabird Restoration Project which
was managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds
(RSPB). Since then, the department has developed from 1
Conservation Officer to a staff of 6 and volunteers and
receives support from the Ascension Island Government, RSPB,
OTEP, and other sources.
The AIG Conservation Department aims to conserve Ascension
natural heritage by implementing the Governments commitments
under the Environment
